Who We Are

Vessels of Mercy is a cooperative blogging effort, started by three young men: Brandon Melton, Robbie Melton, and Judson. As the ministry has continued to grow, we have added two additional contributors: Sean Hall and Lane Lareau. Being bound together by our love for God, our commitment to His truth, and our passion for His glory, we seek to magnify God’s worth by discussing cultural/doctrinal issues as they relate to the Body of Christ. It is our prayer that through this ministry you will grow in your love and understanding of God and His Word. Most of all we pray that the glory of God will be proclaimed clearly throughout this blog, creating passionate worshipers of the Creator of the universe!

Glory to God,
The VoM Team

1 Timothy 1:17
“To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

DISCLAIMER: Because Vessels of Mercy is a cooperative blogging ministry, not all of the theological views expressed by the various contributors are necessarily held by ALL contributors.

There are certain doctrines that, if one does not hold, place one outside the realm of Christian orthodoxy. In other words, there are essential doctrines that are necessary to believe in order to be genuinely saved. This is not to say that belief in these doctrines saves you; rather, if you are genuinely saved you will believe these essential doctrines. However, there are other doctrines which are not essential to the authenticity of one’s salvation. Here are some examples of a few such doctrines:

  • Ordination of women.
  • Continuation/cessation of miraculous gifts.
  • Various eschatological positions.
  • Paedobaptism vs. Believer’s Baptism.
  • Various items of Christian liberty (alcohol, cigarettes, etc.).

Because all of the VoM contributors approach the Scriptures with a very similar (almost identical) mindset, we agree even on most of the non-essentials. Additionally, as is demonstrated by the graphic at the top of this page, each of the VoM contributors hold to Reformed theology to some degree or another. To summarize, while there are a select few non-essential doctrines upon which we may disagree, the number of doctrines upon which we wholeheartedly agree is far greater. On the essentials of orthodoxy, however, all VoM contributors are in 100% agreement.

For a statement of the bare theological minimum to which all contributors hold, please refer to the VoM Confessional Statement.
